Alumni Seminar 2015

From November 9.-13.  the DAAD Alumni Seminar 2015 was carried out with the topic

„11 Years After the Indian Ocean Tsunami 2004 – Lessons of Disaster Recovery, Rehabilitation and Resilience” Almost 11 years after the Indian Ocean Tsunami, the DAAD alumni seminar aimed to address questions concerning performance, effectiveness and sustainability of post-disaster implementations in countries like Indonesia, Sri Lanka and Thailand. The seminar wanted especially to look at the fields of e.g. capacity building, recovery, resettlement, critical Infrastructure and early warning systems involving expertise from scientists and practicioners in a transdisciplinary approach.

19 participants from four continents & various disciplines came together with german and international experts from the field in order to discuss experiences, scientific & practical approaches as well as the necessary conditions for sustainable & long-term reduction of vulnerabilities and disaster risks in areas that had been hit by the 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami. In preparation of the seminar, we carried out two online seminars in September and October 2015.

The 2015 DAAD Alumni Seminar was hosted by the Cologne University of Applied Sciences (CUAS) and the United Nations University – Institute for Environment and Human Security (UNU-EHS).
